RETO is a collaborative open-technology platform created by EduAlter, in partnership with the TIDE research group at UPF. It is a dynamic space for interaction, learning, and collaboration, aimed at contributing to the creation of educational materials on a range of topics related to Global Justice (gender and feminisms, human rights, participation and governance, peace and nonviolence, economic, social, and environmental justice, critical interculturality, and anti-racism). Its goal is to foster the co-creation, editing, and publication of these materials in an open and intuitive environment, outside the control of large technology companies and proprietary platforms. In addition, the platform promotes the validation of educational resources that explicitly incorporate gender, intercultural, and digital sovereignty perspectives, as part of its commitment to mainstreaming these approaches. On RETO, you will find Activities and Teaching Units that can be consulted online or downloaded in PDF format. These materials have been developed and published by organizations, NGOs, educators, and other educational actors under Creative Commons licenses. Beyond consulting existing resources, users can also publish new materials, edit and create versions adapted to different educational levels or contexts, expand, update, or modify the available activities and teaching units, or translate them into different languages. To do so, you simply need to register on the platform by providing an email address and creating your profile. Once registered, you will be able to connect with other members of the platform, as well as access available training opportunities or events. RETO also offers a News section related to the themes addressed by the platform. If you would like more information about what the platform is and how it works, you can consult the frequently asked questions below.
Frequently asked questions
1. What is RETO for Global Justice?
The organizations that initiated this project are EduAlter and Creart, with the economic support of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation and the Government of Catalonia. Other organizations that have taken part are the TIDE research group of Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, the consultancy and advanced digital services company IThink of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech, and the Pangea - Coordinadora Comunicació per a la Cooperació association.
The RETO (Open Technology Educational Resources) for Global Justice project is a collaborative platform that aims to promote digital sovereignty in the learning community made up of teachers and organizations for Education for Global Justice that are involved in critical, transformative educational processes.
RETO is for anyone interested in Education for Global Justice (EfGJ), be they educators, students in the field of educational sciences, educators in non-formal settings, or organizations (centres, groups, associations, and entities specializing in EfGJ).
RETO is open to the participation of any individuals, institutions, organizations, groups or educational centres that would like to collaborate.
The participation of profit-oriented companies or businesses is not permitted to ensure that this program is never used commercially—it was not created for such purposes.
An educational unit is made up of a series of activities with a common thread and a specific order and structure. It requires a longer period of time to be completed.
Activities, on the other hand, can be completed in one or two sessions (two hours). You can work on them independently, or make them part of a longer educational process (educational unit).
2. How does RETO for Global Justice work?

Yes. Whenever you want, you can update information or add materials to a resource you have already published by clicking on the “edit” icon. Any changes you make will be published immediately.
If the resource has been validated –and therefore has RETO’s quality seal– it can no longer be modified.
To modify a resource created by other users, you first need to duplicate it. For more information, see “What are the conditions for duplicating a resource?”
This means your resource is still in draft form. To complete it, go to the final step in creating a resource and click on either “Share” or “Share and validate”.
The goal of duplicating a resource is to improve it so you can continue to enrich and diversify the contents of the platform.
By duplicating a resource, you commit to comply with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC 4.0).
This license allows you to combine, transform and create new content from existing content as long as it is not used commercially.
To comply with the terms, when a resource is duplicated the platform will automatically recognize the previous author using the history of duplications or previous versions (with the appropriate links). It is important to indicate if any changes have been made.
When duplicating a resource, you will have to change the title and specify any changes you make. This information will be visible on the duplicated resource’s file, and you will be able to modify it any time you make changes.
In the duplicate you can add new activities, support materials, recommendations of other resources, or adapt the materials to other educational levels or other areas, materials and methods, translate the material into other languages, etc.
Identical duplicates are not permitted.
